Visit Our Mosque
Colchester Central Mosque has served the town since 1985. We’re glad to welcome visitors — whether you’re a neighbour who’s walked past for years, a school planning a Religious Education (RE) trip, or simply curious about what happens inside. This page covers the practical details; the two pages below cover the two ways most people visit.
Two Ways to Visit
Open Mosque Day
A free open day held every month, and everyone is welcome — a short tour of the mosque, a plain-language talk, and tea with the community. No booking needed.
School Visits
Free educational visits for schools, colleges, and home-education groups. A guided tour, a talk linked to the Religious Education (RE) curriculum, and a question and answer session. Please book at least four weeks ahead.

Parking
Priory Street Car Park sits directly opposite the mosque and is the nearest public parking option. Schools are responsible for arranging their own transport, parking, and coach drop-off; please plan your route in advance based on your vehicle size and group needs.
What to Expect
- Who’s welcome: everyone — all ages, all faiths, and none.
- Out of respect for the mosque as a place of worship, we ask visitors to dress modestly — shoulders and knees covered.
- Shoes are removed before entering the prayer hall.
- Headscarves are a normal part of Muslim women’s dress in the prayer hall, but they are not required for non-Muslim visitors. Anyone who’d like to try wearing one is welcome to bring their own.
- Out of respect for Islamic custom, our team may not shake hands with visitors of the opposite gender — a smile or verbal greeting is always welcome instead.
- We may take a small number of group photos for our own records and promotional use. Anyone who’d rather not be included can simply step out of the photo.
Accessibility
Please tell us about any access requirements — mobility, sensory, or otherwise — when you get in touch, and we’ll prepare for your visit accordingly. If you’d like to check specific facilities beforehand, please call and we’ll talk it through.
Cost
There is no charge to visit. Donations to support our community work are always welcome, but never expected.
